It’s been a long while since I’ve purchased a new cordless, but these functional and sleek options from Swiss company Punkt are tempting. By reversing the charging position, dialers can punch in numbers, check caller-ID, and glance at the time all while it rests at its station.

A cordless phone with chick colors? Great! It is a trendy phone especially for those teens with a busy time chitchatting on the phone. Aside from it is trendy, many will love it for it’s features. Great innovative idea.

Is this an american thing where cordless phones are charged with the buttons facing downwards?

This is probably simply a continuation of design practice from the era of corded hand-sets.
It made design sense to cradle hand-sets with the transmitter and receiver downward when it would meaningfully reduce the accumulation of dust and dirt into the two, and when the curvature of handsets (which curvature was itself driven by sensible considerations) made them more easily stabilized when cradled in this way.
Even now, a hand-set cradled with its transmitter, receiver, and buttons downward will be easier to clean than one cradled with these parts more exposed.
