Sebastian Errazuriz Designs Audemars Piguet’s Lounge at Art Basel Hong Kong

Ultra lux watchmakers Audemars Piguet invited artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz to design their new lounge for their Art Basel 2016 shows in Hong Kong, Basel, and Miami. Using the ice formations and snowy surroundings in picturesque Le Brassus, the Swiss village that Audemars Piguet calls home, as inspiration, the lounge focuses on both nature and passing time, with water and ice being the central elements. Ice Cycle references “the concept of an ice cycle as a metaphor of time” and will be manifested through three components – an icicle growing over time; the water drop, much like the ticking pulse of nature; and rippling water, which shows the forward movement of new life. Errazuriz, known for merging artisanal techniques with high tech methods, produces innovative works with the finest materials, much like principles at the core of Audemars Piguet’s watchmaking. Now, take a look into the horological world of Audemars Piguet, as seen through Sebastian Errazuriz.

Included in the lounge is a soundproof room with walls clad in custom panels outfitted with icicles, stalactites, and stalagmites. The private vault-like space has a chiming watch at the center.

An enclosed ice tank, part of the lounge’s facade, is full of illuminated acrylic rods that flash to the rhythm of a regular heartbeat.

The frame features hexagonal screws, a recognizable detail on Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches.

Within the lounge, a collection of open-worked watches, gem-set jewelry watches, and minute-repeating watches will be on display.

The Haute Joaillerie Diamond Fury and Punk watches will be showcased within custom displays made up of mirror fragments that create a mesmerizing kaleidoscope effect.
