Nuptus is the new Spring/Summer 2012 collection by Sylvio Giardina. Inspired by the idea of veil and cloud, the sculptural silhouettes feel airy and almost liquid-like. Made from polyethylene foam and jersey that works together to embrace the body, some of the pieces feature Swarovski crystals – added to create drama. The addition of the military-inspired jackets, pants and dresses add a more intense and rigid structure to the whole collection. I love the orange bubbly dress above – it’s like being embraced by a pillow.

The clothing is strange. It changes the shape of the woman.

I always enjoy clothing that deliberately plays with silhouette . . . I think there is such a narrow idea of what is acceptable (hourglassy, but not too hourglassy, etc.) for a woman to look like that it is kind of daring to deliberately make clothing that isn’t “flattering.” Also, this line is super fun and playful, which is why I find the photography direction a little weird . . . I would think it would make more sense if the model looked like she was having fun.

Hahahaha! My body is starting to look like that without the benefit of clothes. I thought it was awful but apparently it’s fashion!!
