Take 5: Space Planters, Dog Leashes Made for Strangers, + More

Twice a month we’re inviting one of the Design Milk team members to share five personal favorites – an opportunity for each of us to reveal the sort of designs we love and appreciate in our own lives from a more personal perspective. Senior Contributing Editor Vy Yang joins this week for our Take 5 series.

Take 5: Space Planters, Dog Leashes Made for Strangers, + More

1. Muhly x Plants & Spaces Planters

It’s my favorite time of the year – garden season! With the passing of daylight saving time comes brighter days and longer growing seasons. I’m always looking for more planters and while I have a strictly terracotta theme going on in my own garden, I can’t help but admire these stainless steel versions from a Muhly x Plants & Spaces collaboration! Inspired by “celestial forms, timeless materiality, and plants as art,” these out-of-this-world planters contrast against their natural environments as if they are outdoor art installations. If plants aren’t your thing, there’s also an equally stunning fire pit of the same archetype.

2. East Fork x Schoolhouse Ceramic Lighting

East Fork can now set your table and illuminate it too. In an epic alliance of aesthetics, the North Carolina-based brand has collaborated with west coast native Schoolhouse to create a collection of ceramic lighting. The two companies have shared values in ethical, American-made manufacturing, intentional living, and thoughtful design. Together, they’ve created a series of mix-and-match sconces, flush mounts, and pendant fixtures so that you can match your dinnerware with your lighting.

3. Message-Driven Dog Leashes by LULUWAGS

I get it, puppies and dogs are mighty cute and look like they’re always giving us the glistening eyes that yearn for belly rubs. But, out of respect for the owners and safety for the public, you would think asking to pet a dog was common knowledge! Next time, ward off strangers or remind them of pet courtesy with these warning dog leashes by LULUWAGS. Available in fun colors, they’ll prevent any awkward “Please don’t” conversations that might occur from well-intentioned, but over-zealous dog lovers.

4. Lesley Barnes Wooden Sculptures

Late night scrolling on the ‘gram led me to a serendipitous discovery of artist Lesley Barnes. I love her wooden sculptures that don top knots and striped outfits so much – probably because I sport the same look pretty regularly. In this world of AI, it’s hard to decipher what’s real and what’s been digitally created. Lesley’s work is so vibrant and graphic, it looks almost unreal! She is such a talented artist and I’m happy to have found her.

5. France Thierard Murano Glasses

With the arrival of spring, I get excited to start hosting meals al fresco in our backyard patio and garden. My collection of glassware is humble and currently very monotone in just clear glass, but I’m itching to start collecting more colorful wares. France Thierard sources an incredibly beautiful collection of Murano glasses and these striped ones are calling out to me. The only problem is choosing which colors, or maybe I just need one of each!
