Zaha Hadid has collaborated with Rem D. Koolhaas of United Nude on a new limited edition haute couture shoe called NOVA. Combining innovative material and architectural design to give the appearance of movement, the shoe looks like something out of a Sci-Fi movie. A cantilevered system allows 6.25-inch heel to appear completely unsupported.
Using injection and rotation molding, as well as hand-molded methods such as vacuum casting, the shoe is quite innovative in both materials and techniques NOVA is one of the first shoes to employ rotation molding, a technique used to create seamless detailing. The upper of the shoe combines metallic chromed vinyl rubber and is lined with the highest quality Italian kid nappa leathers. The hidden platform and heel are composed of fiberglass and the outsole is made of rubber.
Zaha Hadid explains, “I have always appreciated those who dare to experiment with materials and proportions. Our collaboration with United Nude reinterprets the classic shoe typology; pushing the boundaries of what is possible without compromising integrity.”
