While the 40 Days of Dating project happened a couple years ago, the book is now out! If you love graphic design, lettering and a bit of humor, this book needs to be in your collection.
If you haven’t heard of this project, let me provide a short summary. New York based designer friends Timothy Goodman and Jessica Walsh decided to not only try dating each other, but also break each other of their equally bad dating habits. Spoiler alert, they didn’t work out, but the project was a huge success, going viral soon after it started. Now, they’ve published a book and there may even be a movie in the works.
Beyond the study of dating, and the different habits these two are trying to help each other break, this also became an art project. They enlisted several other designer, illustrator and lettering friends to provide artwork that was pictured along side their daily journals which were shared on their very popular blog.
Every element of this project was thoughtfully approached, keeping smart and creative design in mind. From the blog design to the way they shared their rules of dating, it was all executed with innovative style.
Turning this fun study in dating into a design project, there was a pice of lettering art accompanying each diary entry, making the daily project both interesting and visually stimulating.
You can now buy those individual pieces of art and all profits will go to the artist. Jessica Hische created this “Hug It Out” lettering above.
“She Needs Friends Not Experiments” was done by Alice Cho
“Things Aren’t Always Black & White” was done by “Julia Rothman”
These are just a few, but you can see (and purchase) all the artwork for the entire project in the 40 Days of Dating Shop or buy the book over on Amazon.
