A Day in the Life of Caroline Gomez

This month’s Designer Dailies gives us a peek into the creative world of French designer Caroline Gomez. Living and working in Bordeaux, the designer has graced the digital pages of Design Milk before with her simple creations, oftentimes utilizing wood in its purest form. Launching her first collection in 2009, Gomez continues to expand her line of minimalist yet functional wares, all while remaining true to her organic aesthetic. Further growing her empire, Gomez partnered with Sophie Denux in 2012 to start a lifestyle magazine called SLØ, which marries her scaled-back design philosophy with living an enjoyable life. Let’s see how she spends the day, “A day almost as the others.”

I like taking time to make attractive packages.

I like to stamp labels on some beautiful recycled paper.

Then I take care of my communications and I prepare press releases. I update products in the online shop and I answer my e-mails…

Once all this was settled, I have the free spirit to create. I work on various projects: furniture, objects, events…

For several hours and often whole days, I experiment with various prototypes. I draw the plans which I give to my craftsmen.

I take advantage of the beautiful light during the photography sessions for my products. I put them in situations and make various pictures.

Then I sort out photos on my computer and prepare the pictures for the press and the shop.

I end the day by finalizing the model of my magazine SLØ (co-published with Sophie Denux).
