A Run Down House is Transformed into a Modern Home

After sitting empty for several years, a bungalow in Braid Hills had gone into disrepair prior to a family purchasing it. With its condition and poor layout, they hired Capital A to transform the South Edinburgh house into a much larger modern home.

With the dramatic ground level change, they chose to work with it instead of fight it by designing a split level extension. Now, the main living area is at ground level so it can be reached without having to climb any steps.

The design includes a new cantilevered overhang that spans the length of the house and becomes an outdoor balcony.

Another large cantilever was incorporated onto the street side to create a welcoming entrance that’s covered, offering protection from the weather.

The new interior of the main living space is open and brightly lit, flowing from one space to the next.
