Born from Myth: ARIANNA Lamp by Baldessari e Baldessari

Baldessari siblings Michela and Paolo make up Italian design firm Baldessari e Baldessari and they’re launching a new lamp called ARIANNA that was inspired by the Greek myth of Ariadne.

Ariadne is well associated with balls of thread and yarn and the duo thought to redefine the very thing that holds those – the yarn swift. Yarn swifts are adjustable wooden structures that expand and contract much like an umbrella mechanism does when you raise and lower them.

The cherry wood lamp, designed for Pallucco, takes its shape from the swift and modernizes it into an architectural sculpture to hang from your ceiling. You get to decide the size you want to expand it to when you assemble it, making it customizable to your space.

Wind yarn around it, like you would a swift, to change the look up.
