Kelly Martin, the interior designer behind the bespoke furniture collection ATELIERxKM, designs pieces for the home inspired by high-end fashion. For Fall 2021, she’s introduced three new pieces that combine the beauty of natural walnut and oak with blackened steel to create a juxtaposition of soft and hard edges. The three tables – Dion Coffee Table, Haider Side Table, and Pierre Coffee Table – are made to order in Los Angeles, where the brand is based like the rest of their furniture. Read on to learn which fashion designers inspired the trio.
The Dion Coffee Table takes notes from Australian designer Dion Lee’s experimental yet tailored fashion. Cutouts accentuate its form, while the movement of light through the central chasm gives it an edge.
Haider Ackerman is known for sharp edges created through unexpected seams and darts in garments. In a display of form meeting function, The Haider Side Table emulates the same aesthetic with its bold base shape.
Pierre Cardin was a master of shapes working well together in his creations. The Pierre Coffee Table follows suit with its unique silhouette, symmetry, and striated wood grain.
