The FOODSCAPES project tackles the problem of food waste in a completely different way. Rather than expending efforts to decrease food waste, they are utilizing food waste to be a functional piece of tableware.
FOODSCAPES is created by WHOMADE.IT and Michela Milani. It uses edible leftover materials and reconstructs a seed-shaped bowl that can hold dry foods. It is free of any additives, preservatives, colorants, thickeners, correctors, and artificial agents. Once you’re done with it, it can be dissolved in water and act as soil fertilizer.
“From seed to fruit, from fruit to seed and from earth to earth.”

These will be other peoples’ leftovers? Some people will be grossed out by that. I also wonder if they will have gluten free, dairy free, Vegan, and nut free options. This may be an idea whose time passed a while ago.

It’s a nice idea, but the previous comment was right in this is an idea whose time is passed. In the Medieval period, people would use bread trenchers at table, and then the used bread with its drippings would be handed out to the poor. And then, you could eat a stew or soup out of them. But good try, folks! Sorry, that sounds pedantic, but I really meant it. I think there is merit in the use of recycled food, but I don’t think many people will want to eat off what is commonly seen as garbage.

Brillian idea! I would also want to share a project I have as a faculty-researcher in one of the colleges here in the Philippines. In one of my research studies, I’m finding ways on how to convert food wastes – specifically, vegetable & fruit refuse – into other food preparations such as pastries, bread, and even as flavoring for shake.
It will be nice to use your bowls from food waste as container for my food/dish prepared from food wastes.
