Go green while you clean your teeth. Sounds like a good plan, right? Bogobrush aims to not only produce a 100% biodegradable toothbrush but to help someone in need with their plan to give a Bogobrush away to someone who needs one with every one that is purchased.
The brother and sister team of John and Heather McDougall wanted to design a product that brought social awareness and environmental action to people’s everyday lives. Growing up the children of a dentist, it seemed only fitting to reinvent the toothbrush.
The design is sculpted from bamboo and uses nylon bristles that are biodegradable, meaning that no part of it will end up in a landfill.
They’re available for pre-order and you have the option to purchase one or a year’s supply.

Thank goodness!! I have seen thousands of discarded toothbrushes washed up on beaches in Honduras and Floria – literally! Anything someone can do to reduce the amount of trash that winds up in the ocean would be great. BTW, some other things that show up in large numbers are shoes (often one for every foot of beach – pun intended, lol), plastic dolls (or parts of dolls, which is kind of disturbing), syringes from discarded medical waste (even more disturbing) and drink bottles.

Hi Gecko Gail, Thanks for the approval of Bogobrush! The list of trash you find in Honduras and Florida is devastating, but inspiring all at the same time. At Bogobrush, we believe good action is better than no action, and we are so excited to be starting with Bogobrush. And, as we grow, we’ll keep doing our part to improve not only Bogobrush, but anything we encounter. Your list is a perfect addition to the brainstorm of help improve. If you ever want to chat, you can connect with us on Facebook or through our website. Cheers!

Here in the North of England, a ‘bogbrush’ is what you use to clean your toilet.

why is it called bog brush, people will love to put that in their mouth

It’s bogo not bog. BOGO stands for “buy one get one” here in the US, but, in this case it’s Buy One Give One.

They have since nixed the bamboo and gone towards biodegradable and recyclable plastic according to their blog: http://blog.bogobrush.com/this-spring-new-bogobrush-steps-out/

“The design is sculpted from bamboo and uses nylon bristles that are biodegradable, meaning that no part of it will end up in a landfill.”
No part HAS to end up in a landfill, is what you may have wanted to say.
But of course, virtually everything ends up in a landfill anyway.
Nylon bristles will take a year or so to start to decompose, under ideal conditions, which excludes most landfills where very little degrades.
But hey, that’s a beautiful toothbrush and depending on price, I would buy one.
