Couture Dogs of New York is the most recent creative endeavor from photographer Paul Nathan, a coffee table book that captures the city’s best-dressed dogs, their owners, and the couturiers that create their one-off outfits including wedding gowns, red carpet-worthy ballgowns, and tuxedos.
While socializing with the four-legged, Nathan attended “pawties”, “puptials,” and “bark-mitzvahs,” and the glamorous New York Pet Fashion Show (previously known as the Pre-Westminster Fashion Show). Ultimately, he chose fifteen of the most fashion-forward pooches to invite to his studio along with their favorite couture pieces to pose for this book. The result is a giddily glamorous romp through Manhattan’s “doggie world” where the city’s most stylish mutts get dressed to the “k-nines” even for a walk around the block. Many of the dogs are rescues and the events they dress up for often benefit animal shelters, adding a Cinderella-like quality to their stories. A percentage of proceeds from the sale of Couture Dogs of New York will benefit the Humane Society of New York.
