Lisa Cervone contacted me recently to share this series of portraits she photographed for Detroit Dog Rescue, the first no-kill rescue in the metro Detroit area. Mostly pitties and pit mixes, the images are at once heartbreaking and full of hope: while their individual stories are horrifying (and sadly, a common occurrence) many of these previously-abused dogs have since found forever homes.
