Friday Five with Peter Sallick of Waterworks

If you’ve ever been on the hunt for bathroom or kitchen fixtures, chances are you’ve landed on Waterworks, the notable high-end brand that can outfit every square inch of your bathroom or kitchen with their offerings. This year mark’s the 40th anniversary of the luxury brand – 25 of which have been run by their CEO Peter Sallick, who took over the family run business in 1993. Over the years, the brand has flourished under his leadership thanks to his push for new product development, the creation of multi-channel distribution, the establishment of a global supply chain, and technology upgrades that aid in performance. In 2002, he founded Design Leadership Network, a membership-based organization that aims to strengthen and enhance the design community of architects and interior designers, and then later on, Sallick co-founded Dering Hall, Inc., a digital shopping platform that features premium furnishings as well as professional services. His unique set of skills and business acumen continue to grow the company, solidifying its place at the top of the design industry. Read on to discover what Sallick loves, in this week’s Friday Five.

1. Designer Home Emporiums
I love stores created by interior designers because they provide the public with an inside look at their work and ideas. A few of my favorites are Aero and Copper Beech (above) by Thomas O’Brien, as well as RW Guild by Roman and Williams. These are two designers with whom I have collaborated and continue to work with on future projects because they keep me inspired.

2. Swiss Alps
Right now I am thinking about the Swiss Alps. Skiing there is unlike anything in the US because the huge trams take you so far from the villages. I feel like an adventurer in a vast landscape that goes on forever. There are no trees or trails out there. It’s just snow, and small villages or even freestanding little houses dotting the sides of the mountain that serve incredible food.

3. Outdoor Showers
My favorite spot in my house is my outdoor shower. I have had one for 20 years and use it from April until October. I have a Waterworks Easton exposed shower installed against my pool house. When I stand out there I can look across my whole front property…which changes through the seasons. The best is when I am out there with deer casually walking across the grass.

4. Sterling Ruby Ashtrays
I love my Sterling Ruby “ashtrays,” which are incredible examples of fun and creative objects made of ceramic. They live at the intersection of art and design, and for me show off the excitement of glaze in their rich, deep color and movement.

5. Favorite pastime
Sailing and skiing…I just love being outdoors!
