Friday Five with WorkOf
View Slideshow

New York City-based duo Charlie Miner and John Neamonitis launched WorkOf at the beginning of 2014 with the goal of easily bringing well-made, high-end original furniture made by independent designers to consumers. Their website offers up-and-coming designers a place to market, promote, and sell their wares, while offering the buyer an easy-to-use site full of curated authentic works that might be otherwise hard to find. The site has teamed up with makers like Calico Wallpaper, Moving Mountains, Bower, Allied Maker, Pelle, Bell Boy, Workstead, and many more, with everything from tables to seating to lighting, and so much more. Think of it like an upscale department store but for indie makers. Let’s take a look at where this pair finds inspiration during the first year of their startup, in this week’s Friday Five.

1. Broken Dreams Club EP, Girls
Music is a big part of our lives, and these tracks – maybe more than any – have helped us keep things on even keel when navigating the highs and lows of startup life. They also happen to sound quite nice on a summer night down by the water.

F5-WorkOf-2-Mothers-Ruin-Bar

2. Mother’s Ruin
Our local bar. Lots of informal meetings have taken place here since we launched WorkOf – some have been more productive than others, but all have been over a couple dressed-up Tecates and Mother’s duck wings.

F5-WorkOf-3-ametsuchi-rinko-book

3. Ametsuchi, Rinko Kawauchi
This book came to us via the wonderful Still House on recommendation from our good friend Emily Johnston. Emily helped style and shoot our last installation at Industry City, which was a really special time for us. This book caught our eye from the second we saw it. The quietly powerful color-washed images will always remind us of that beautiful space.

4.Charlatan, Martyr, Hustler – Letterpress Poster, Joey Roth
This poster hangs in our web designer’s office. We love everything about it, and when Joey – who also makes amazing self-watering planters – contacted us out of the blue about joining WorkOf, we felt like things had come full circle. We aren’t in LA yet, but after a little more hustle you may see his planters on the site soon.

5. Key Target, Bower
Bower is one of the many amazing Brooklyn-based makers on WorkOf. Danny and Tammer have been big supporters of ours since the beginning, and we love having one of these on the wall in our office. It’s the only thing that keeps us from bringing home the bathroom key every night.
