On February 27th, the annual Greener Gadgets Conference was held in New York City. The conference boasts top-name speakers from the worlds of technology, environmentalism and design and plays host of one of the most well respected and innovative green design competitions. This year, Limor Fried of Adafruit Industries and Phillip Torrone of MAKE magazine walked away with the top design prize for their open-source Tweet-a-Watt technology.

By rigging an off-the-shelf power meter, these two created a gadget with wireless publishing capabilities to personal Twitter accounts. This keeps households accountable for their daily KWH usage, another great way to motivate a greener lifestyle.
