What is a HABODE? HABODE is a new type of prefab housing that was first developed in New Zealand to suit the unique Australasian conditions. From extreme heat, torrential downpours and extreme winds, HABODE buildings meet or surpass all New Zealand building codes. Now, it’s been adapted for use just about anywhere. Each HABODE has generous living and kitchen areas, 2 or 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and laundry. There are also environmental considerations. Each house can be delivered and assembled in about 2 days.

Hmm… Not impressed. I have seen better prefab designs. This one reminds me of a portacabin. Tornado proof or not…

I think they look very cool and a trailer park full of them would look super cool. I looked up the ‘environmental considerations’ and feel they have the reduce, down pat but what about the reuse and recycle.
This is a paste from their website:
•Thermally broken window/wall system
•Double glazing
•Solar power and waste heating capabilities in all units
•Significant levels of thermal/sound insulation in all units
•Use of Corten steel with international freight container grade paint specification in lieu of galvanised mild steel to ensure increased longevity of units
•Use of treated ply materials in all instances in lieu of solid timber to reduce attack from pests
•Roof rainwater runoff capturing capabilities in all units
•Water saver cistern, tap and shower capabilities in all units
•Variable 2.4m plus ceiling heights in all units
•Low energy fluorescent downlights throughout all units
•On-demand instantaneous water heating systems

I love this place – might make a very nice home office for Lifework if they do smaller versions. Will have to check.
It also makes me want to buy a block of land and build one myself!

I know — I was thinking it would be super cool if there was a modern campground with a bunch of these!!

With all the decoration and complexity of the windows, I guess they are not cheap! For those commenting that they would like to see a bunch in a caravan park, have a look at http://www.fultonsalomon.com then go thru the menu for some surprises in this kind of prefab building. As a DIY, you can start with under $40k.

Very creative, very artistic.

great concept, great design – but ridiculously over-priced…
almost triple the cost, per m2, than your conventional structure.
I hope they go broke.

One hurricane or twister and it’s in the gutter. I love the idea of preFab houses, but for me, most of the hip, modern houses that are posted here are generally ugly. Does anyone else think so?
