Heath Ceramics Rises Above Expanding Into Lighting Inspired by Fireflies

From dressing up your tablescapes to now illuminating them, Heath Ceramics beckons your eyes upwards as it expands into a whole new category: lighting. This venture into lighting marks an exciting evolution for the company, renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and design in tableware and tile. Hand-thrown by the skilled team of the Heath Clay Studio, the new lighting series stays true to the modernist DNA of Heath. Designer and Clay Studio Director Tung Chiang builds upon the legacy left behind by Edith Heath with this thoughtful, intentional, and incredibly beautiful ceramic collection. The line features the Stack Table Lamp in small or wide sizes, available in Oat and Penny Green or Hickory and Barley glazes, and the Bloom Pendant in a singular size, available in Zinnia and Sunflower Gloss or Hickory and Barley.

Although the lighting collection just launched today, this isn’t the first time Chiang explored the idea of ceramic as a medium for lighting. In 2015, as part of Heath’s third installment of its extraordinary Design Series project (which ended at the end of last year, wrapping up a decade-long run), Chiang presented a variety of ways in which clay could be present in lighting, either as the hero material or a supporting actor.

For this collection, clay is undeniably the star of the show. Inspired by his memories as a child in Hong Kong capturing fireflies and watching them glow between his fingers, Chiang recreates this magical observation by designing the table lamps to cast a dappled pattern of light around each lamp’s base. “The effect reminds me of my childhood; catching fireflies in my hands, then loosening my fingers to let their light shrine through,” he reminisces.

With this new category, Heath Ceramics continues to expand its influence in the design world by offering ceramic products that elevate everyday living spaces with functional artistry. The lighting collection is a testament to the brand’s ability to innovate while staying true to its roots.
