A Luxurious Spa by Liaigre Completes Hôtel Costes in Paris

The Hôtel Costes‘s reputation precedes it. One of Paris’s most exclusive hospitality destinations, it opened in 1995 under Jean-Louis and Gilbert Costes, the impresario brothers who kicked off their careers with a legendary bar designed by a then-unknown Philippe Starck. While the Hôtel Costes originally opened on Rue Saint-Honoré, with an evocative interior design by Jacques Garcia, a second wing was added in recent years when the brothers acquired nearby Hotel Lotti with an entrance on Rue de Castiglione.

For discerning tourists, the legendary five-star venue is worth the luxurious room rates. And now, there’s even more reason to go: Liaigre, the design firm behind the Castiglione wing, has returned to redesign the spa complex at the base of that building. Continuing the contemporary aesthetic Christian Liaigre established in the hotel, the studio rendered the new spa in rich, solid materials. Travertine, smoked oak, lacquer, and liquid amber shape the spa at Hôtel Costes and coalesce into a moody yet re-energizing ambiance.

The experience begins at the base of a majestic double staircase and through molded metal gates. There, the reception sets the scene, as a Dolby Atmos sound system pipes out immersive audio, and the spa’s signature fragrance—custom-created by renowned perfumer Olivia Giacobetti—wafts through the air. The senses are immediately engaged, and the lighting design crafted by Arnold Chan and Isometrix only heightens the atmosphere.

But the most dramatic moment is reserved for the spa’s central oasis: Under a coffered ceiling, a 65-foot-long swimming pool lined in a lagoon mosaic is filled with oxygen-enriched water. Around the pool, a series of curtained lounge nooks provides the ultimate leisurely experience. Guests can also use eight treatment rooms for skincare treatments provided by the U.K.-based skincare brand Augustinus Bader, a partner of the spa. There is nothing that Hôtel Costes did not consider in this ultimate addition to its revered address.
