Keane Collars for Small and Large Breeds

Keane Collars is owned by Michael Normore and named after Michael’s lovable Siberian Husky (above). Inspired by his pup, Michael created a line of stylish yet tough leather collars and leashes for just about any size dog. Having a large breed dog myself (Lulu is ~75lbs), I know how challenging it is to find accessories that work for bigger dogs.

If you also have an oversized pup in your household, you know how frustrating it can be to find anything other than a boring collar to fit around your dog’s neck. Why? In this country, the rise of pint-sized pups has grown due not only to celebrities carrying around their tiny dogs like handbags (or in handbags!) and Michael also thinks it’s because “they are easier to take of than large breed dogs, and they complement their owner?s lifestyle.” Smaller dogs = smaller accidents to clean up and less food = less money.

“We as a society adorn our pets and treat them as extensions of ourselves, and for this reason many owners favor small dogs that they can easily accessorize. In addition, most small dogs were bred as simple companions or lap dogs, which increases their appeal,” Michael explains. He also makes a good point that large breeds were bred to do working and sporting activities, not to be accessories or accessorized.

Michael started Keane Collars not only for Keane but because of his overall love for all dogs — big and small. Their collars are made of high-quality harness leather, which is extremely strong. “When we first got Keane, we bought Nylon leads and harnesses. Unfortunately, if the lead was in his reach it would be chewed apart in a matter of days. Unlike the numerous Nylon leads Keane chewed through, I still have his first leather lead that I made for him over 2 years ago,” Michael explains.

Once Michael was settled on the material, he directed his attention to the style and comfort. The simple designs make it easy to pair with just about any other accessory, and the simple embellishments are just enough shimmer to make them stand out. Nothing is overdone.

Most dogs wear a collar 24 hours a day, so it has to be comfortable! Their collars have a soft leather backing and the rolled collars have extra padding to make it more comfortable around the dog’s neck.

Keane Collars is based in Canada, but they ship worldwide and wholesale. Go check ’em out!
