L’Arte della Cucina Poster Design Contest from Barilla

A lot of design competitions come into my inbox but rarely do I get super excited about them. However, the new L’Arte della Cucina poster design competition from Barilla Sauce, is one that brings together three of my favorite things: art, design and food. Mmmmm…

Artists and designers across the U.S. are being challenged with creating “fresh expressions” of Barilla Sauce by harmonizing ideas of fresh ingredients and the art of Italian cuisine. The fresh taste of Barilla Sauce inspires fresh thinking and the L’Arte della Cucina poster design competition engages designers to create a Barilla poster that celebrates the art of Italian cuisine using the subject of Barilla Sauce.

Barilla has long appreciated the creative spirit that drives both the chef and the artist. Pietro Barilla’s passion as a benefactor and collector of the arts led Barilla to become an early innovator in 20th century poster design. Over the decades, designers and artists have found inspiration in the celebration of food and cooking—influenced by the art of the times.

To enter the contest, you must submit your poster design on the contest website here.

I’m extra excited about this contest for two more reasons:

First, the winner and one guest will receive a one-week cultural trip to Italy, which includes cooking classes at Academia Barilla in Parma and tours of Milano art museums and design schools (or the monetary equivalent, up to $10,000). Other potential recognition includes the artwork used in future Barilla marketing communications.

Secondly, I’ll be a judge, but YOU choose the winner! That means I’ll be perusing tons of beautiful poster designs all about Italian cuisine, along with the other judges, to choose our top five finalists… I suppose I shouldn’t do that on an empty stomach… The public will then determine the winner.
