Lighting Design Studios You Should Know About

There are many large lighting manufacturers out there that crank out fixtures as quickly as possible, oftentimes sacrificing craftsmanship for quantity. At the same time, there is a wealth of independent design studios producing artisan, sculptural lighting that pays particular attention to quality. While YLighting carries just about any type and brand of lighting you could possibly want, they still manage to carve out space for the little guys out there – many of who are creating forward-thinking, ultra-unique designs. Take a look at some of our favorite smaller, independent design studios that are doing big things.

Based in Toronto, hollis+morris is a furniture and lighting brand that launched in 2015 at ICFF. Their handcrafted pieces standout thanks to their ability to push the boundaries as to what you may think lighting can do. They incorporate bold shapes and silhouettes in materials like solid wood and metal for a timeless and striking look.

Brooklyn-based Rosie Li Studio explores a sculptural approach to lighting where she mixes geometric shapes and organic forms from a series of modular parts. Her science-inspired fixtures repeat the same shapes or the same shapes in varying sizes for lively result.
