Mingus & Dottie Try It: Sealy Dog Bed

Mingus & Dottie Try It: Sealy Dog Bed

If there’s one thing at which huskymutts Mingus and Dottie truly excel, it’s lying around and doing absolutely nothing — making them the perfect candidates to test out a dog bed. In this month’s installment of Mingus & Dottie Try It, Mingus and Dottie test-drive the Sealy memory foam dog bed. What did we think? Check out our review below!

[Disclosure: Sealy sent us a dog bed to review. All views and opinions are our own.]

Sealy mattresses have a great reputation, so we were super excited to give the Sealy dog bed a try. I opened the box while Mingus and Dottie were occupied outside so that I could give it a thorough once-over before they got it all hairy and dirty (as they do).

I’m quite impressed by the construction of the Sealy dog bed. It’s nice and thick and firm, providing a good 4- to 5-inch layer of comfy padding between dog and floor. The built-in bolsters provide not only a nice pillow for your dog but also give it a clean, sophisticated design and sturdy shape.

Inside the Sealy dog bed’s chic design is some serious science. It’s what Sealy calls Quad Layer Technology: Cooling Energy Gel (to help regulate body temperature), Pet Rest Memory Foam (for comfort and shape), Bio-green Orthopedic Foam (for even weight distribution and joint relief), and Pro-Charcoal HD Foam (for extra support and odor absorption). So basically, yeah, this dog bed is nicer than the mattress on my bed.

I’m also impressed by several of the other details Sealy included in the design, like hidden zippers, removable covers for easy washing, a waterproof inner liner, and a non-slip bottom. A dog bed without a removable, washable cover is pretty worthless, yes? I also really like that the sleeping surface of the bed is not white, which, in our house, would show dirt in, oh, about 37.4 seconds. The bed we were sent is a pleasing blend of grays that helps hide dirt and hair. (It’s also available in brown and – coming soon- pink!)

As to the question of comfort, I let the dogs handle that one. It appears to be quite comfortable. There’s plenty of room to stretch out, and both Mingus and Dottie really seemed to like propping their heads or chins up on the built-in bolsters. (Sometimes Dottie even throws her arm over the side like a trucker.) Thanks to the memory foam, layered interior, and solid construction, the bed doesn’t lose its shape with use. It’s super lightweight (especially considering its size and materials) and can easily be moved from room to room. For now, it’s found a welcome home in a corner of our family room, and I think Mingus and Dottie both like it almost as much as the couch.
