MINNA’s Wallpaper Series “Portals” Is Born From Original Paintings

Queer-owned home goods brand MINNA is celebrating a couple of major milestones this year! 2024 marks the brand’s 10-year anniversary and its first-ever foray into wallpapers after a decade of producing beautiful, ethnically-made textiles for the home. Founder Sara Berks leans into her art practice once again to create a series of wallpapers that are based on her original paintings. Berks, who gravitates towards pattern-based imagery, conjures up a new world with these detailed designs and fittingly named the collection, Portals.

The series features seven styles: Tower, Vision, Portals, Painted Grid, Terrace, Vine, and Quilt. Each evokes a painterly, handmade touch akin to a framed work of original art. No need for a trip to the framers – these wallpapers effortlessly infuse any room with artistic flair and sophistication.

Using digital printing techniques, Portals is also available as fabric that is nearly commercial grade and expands MINNA’s home offerings which already includes handwoven textiles in the form of pillows, rugs, blankets, throws, and more. “Portals is an exciting new direction for us,” Berks shares. “As a company that has always defined itself by the technique and thought that goes into each product, utilizing digital methods opens a new world for us.” Berks highlights the collaborative relation with their manufacturing partner as being similar to the artisan weavers they work with: “We were able to find a partner that not only shared our company’s ethical values, but one that also prioritizes sustainable manufacturing processes and a dedication to craft.”

MINNA, already a household name with a devoted following, now gives us even more reasons to incorporate the brand into our homes.
