Singapore design firm Creativeans designed an intriguing collection to present at this year’s SaloneSatellite entitled The Missing Dining Table. The curated collection of eight designs began as an exploration of dining and how we, as a whole, dine these days, which led to imagining dining alternatives for the future.
Technology has led to a rather solitary lifestyle for many and over time our lifestyle evolves with changes in eating habits. With that information, the Creativeans designed six pieces and invited a guest designer, Andrew Loh, to collaborate on the remaining two.
Reflection by Andrew Loh
Looking at the way pets have become such integral parts of our lives, Reflection lets you dine with your four-legged friend. The design synchronizes meals your pet’s meal with yours with an embedded sensor that’s triggered when a plate of food is set on the table. When that happens, it triggers the pet food dispenser and camera so you and your companion can dine face-to-face. When you’re not eating, you can use it as a table for working.
Singular by Andrew Loh
To celebrate eating alone, Singular lets you lose yourself in a good book or in your device as you dine on the go.
Wago by Creativeans
Wago takes you from the grocery store, to food prepping, all the way to dining, as it works as a cart, prep station, and dining table. Perfect for dining in the wild since it’s mobile.
Oryza by Creativeans
Oryza is disposable, hassle-free dining ware that opens up into a three-dimensional container to eat while you’re standing around and talking. You can easily eat with one hand and keep your food close to you.
Solaris by Creativeans
Solaris is a lamp that will warm your food while you sit and work. During the colder months, turn it on its side to have it warm you.
Coex by Creativeans
Coex is perfect for those living small as it works as a side table and a stool simply by flipping it over.
Venus by Creativeans
Venus is a dual-sided plate that works with finger foods and sweets on one side and holds pasta or soup on the other. It’s easy to hold and carry while you’re moving around.
Botanica by Creativeans
Botanica is a creative set of disposable cutlery that comes in the form of a plant with “leaves” that can be picked off to use as forks and spoons. It also serves as a reminder that the evening is done when the leaves are all gone.
The exhibition was supported by the DesignSingapore Council, which is part of the Ministry of Communications and Information.
