You may have seen Kenya Hara’s most recent project, Architecture for Dogs floating around the Internet this past week. I originally spotted it in the latest issue of print publication Metropolis Magazine (highly recommended, P.S.), whose now-online article contains looooads of fantastic photos from this project to peruse (and amuse). But first, what’s this “Architecture for Dogs” business all about anyway?
In collaboration with Imprint Venture Lab, Kenya Hara, the creative director for MUJI, paired 12 top-notch architects and designers with a specific dog breed. Their challenge? To design breed-specific structures that could be replicated (and adapted) by anyone anywhere in the world.
Beginning, well, now the blueprints for each of these 12 designs are available for download on the Architecture for Dogs website. Consider it an interactive exhibition — from now until October 2013, users can download, build/re-interpret, and upload their own spin-off designs to the Architecture for Dogs site, after which a final exhibition will take place in Tokyo. Interested but not quite ready to take on the from-scratch, DIY approach? Flat-packed kits will be available for purchase in the spring (2013). So, sit tight!
