The Great Camp Collection by Paul Loebach

At ICFF, Matter launched the MatterMade Collection Number One, which focuses continuing the American craft tradition with a new voice. Matter owner and Creative Director Jamie Gray began developing MatterMade in 2009, envisioning a domestically sourced and manufactured contemporary collection that often draws inspiration from America’s rich craft tradition and design history.

Part of this new collection is Paul Loebach’s Great Camp collection, which derives its inspiration from the Adirondack vacation culture of upstate New York in the late 1800s — a unique time and place where untamed wilderness and bold domestic grandeur met in seamless fashion. Built in the USA, Great Camp is made using proprietary computerized machining techniques developed specifically for this project, capable of producing uncommonly meticulous faceted forms. This technology digitally sculpts solid wood into components reminiscent of raw sticks and branches. The parts come together using traditional joinery to make a dresser, credenza, chair and coat stand of the finest quality and finish.
