The Modern Design That Casey Keasler Is Loving Right Now

Casey Keasler is an interior architect and founder of Casework – a Portland-based interior design studio that develops approachable, experiential environments that are just as nuanced and unique as their clientele. No stranger to home renovations (her parents bought a Victorian-era home when she was 11), Casey has always been fascinated with all of the small details that come together to tell a story in a space. After working her way through the design world for over fifteen years, Keasler went on to launch Casework in 2015, and has been working with her all-women team to bring their modern, personalized design approach to residential spaces – like this cozy colonial remodel – and commercial spaces – like Hightower Studio’s newly debuted showroom – ever since.

Drawing on an eclectic range of materials, textures, and references, Casey’s spaces embody a cool yet comforting aesthetic that’s always guided by function first, making them as livable as they are stylish. Most recently, she teamed up with Hightower Studios to create a collection of playful, modern pillows that bring the Casework aesthetic to your home. Featuring relaxed, artsy shapes, a modern color palette, and tactile materials, the Casework x Hightower Pillow Collection brings whimsy and texture to any spot in the house.

4″ Totem Candles | Set of 5 by Obakki

“I just returned from a trip to Copenhagen and the quality of light and ambiance is incredibly critical, especially in the winter. There you’ll find burning candlesticks on tabletops, even for lunch. Which I plan to embrace! It elevates the basic take out lunch from the local food truck and makes a quick meal feel special. These totems are the perfect sculptural set.”

Eclipse Candle Holder by Aaron Probyn

“You can’t have candlesticks without having a holder! I love the clean lines of these brass holders paired with a sculptural candle. They elevate the most basic beeswax candle and reflect another layer of light.”

Chalk Merino Throw by Studio Variously

“When looking for a throw, I have two qualifiers. Is it soft, and will it add a layer of texture to my room? The Chalk throw from Studio Variously checks both boxes. I also love that they support the employment of women artisans.”

northern plant pot

Oasis Medium Self-Watering Flowerpot by Northern

“I am notorious for over-loving my house plants – a.k.a overwatering and then killing. The Oasis Self-Watering Planter by Northern is genius in that it won’t allow me to slowly kill them all!”

Casework x Hightower Studio Pillow Collection

“I designed the pillow collection with the Hightower showroom in Chicago in mind. It is full of arches and curves and I wanted these pillows to contrast with a regular square pillow. The Round Pillow ($225) with a large button is the most nostalgic for me. It’s the one pillow that pops up time and time again from my memory as a child in the 70s and 80s at my grandmother’s house. This time it’s updated with a post-consumer recycled fabric from Maharam and a large-scale button.”
