The Scoop: Dabito and Beatrice

I’m excited to get The Scoop on the canine muse behind one of my favorite bloggers and photographers, Dabito of Old Brand New. When he’s not sharing gorgeous images of his daily adventures (including decorating his incredible home, thrifting for vintage finds, and making/eating delicious food), he’s posting photos of his pup Beatrice on his blog and Instagram. To say I’m completely smitten with this little dog would be an understatement! So, let’s meet Ms. Beatrice, shall we?

Name? Beatrice Arthur-Mastiff

Nickname? Sometimes, I like to tease her by calling by her old name from her previous owners. She was named Rohonda. Isn’t it hilarious? She told me she hated it, which I agree, so I changed it. Now I call her Queen Bea, Beayonce (she’s a fierce strutter) or Man-heater.

Age? 5 and half years old.

Breed? Bea is a very worldly dog — chihuahua mix with corgi, terrier, and mastiff.

What’s “The Scoop”? I adopted her from the LA Animal Services in West LA. I needed a fulfilling relationship with a non-human so it was time to get a dog. Also, my maternal instincts were kicking in.

Favorite Toy? Her tail. It’s so silly to watch. And any toy that squeaks drives her nuts!

Favorite Food? She’s not a picky eater. She loves everything, even vitamins. Lately, I’ve been giving her green beans as a treat and she LOVES it!

Favorite place to sleep? In my queen-sized bed, laying next to me. She’s a cuddle bug. Or when I’m gone, she likes to curl up like a fawn and sleep on my pile of clothes so she can smell me all day. What a sweet little creeper!

Pet Peeves? She’s not into people tapping her booty; she’s a classy lady. And baths give her the heebie jeebies.

Best Trick? She’s an incredible model. The girl knows when there’s a camera around and she just works her angles. She also loves to challenge people to a staring contest.

Gear? Puppia harness is the best! And Hachi Supply has really fun artist leashes.

If your dog were another animal what animal would that be? A fox or a fawn or a philosopher. She’s always deep in thought.

You’re frequently moving to (and decorating with incredible style) new spaces, how does Ms. Beatrice adapt to these new environments? Does she go with the flow? And, can you offer any tips for helping a dog settle in to a new place? Beatrice is surprisingly super chill every time I pack and move, which is every year. I really lucked out. She adapts to all the new places quicker than me. On the day of the move, I suggest getting them a doggysitter, like a friend or family to watch them for the day because it’s very hectic and you don’t want any furniture falling on them.

Thanks Dabito and Beatrice!

P.S. Beatrice recently had a play date with one of our past Scoops, Pepe — you must see the photos! Those two are simply too adorable.

Capree has a deep love of Victorian-era “fancy lads”, 19th Century anatomy drawings, and tin robots. She loves big, bold colors and big, bold patterns. Oh, and anything well-designed, especially if it’s something she can sit in.
