The Scoop: David Bromstad, Dozer and Bon-Bon

The Scoop: David Bromstad, Dozer and Bon-Bon

I fell in love with David Bromstad‘s infectious personality and optimism when he first appeared on, and won, HGTV’s first season of Design Star. Since then, he’s gone on to host a multitude of hit TV series, including Color Splash and The White Room Challenge, returning most recently to host the show that launched his career, Design Star. When he’s not busy working as a designer, artist, and TV personality, he’s spending his time cuddling with his two adorable dogs. Let’s meet them, shall we?

What’s “The Scoop”? I’ve always loved little Frenchie’s. Dozer was flown in as a puppy from Czechoslovakia and Bon Bon is a US-born citizen from Louisiana; she is my little southern belle!

Favorite Toy? They both fight over their cute little stuffed animal and football.

Favorite Food? Merrick brand Wilderness Blend is their favorite kind of food. For a special treat, peanut butter!

Favorite place to sleep? They are my little cuddle babies. They love to cuddle up on the couch right next to us.

Pet Peeves? They hate the rain and they can not stand to go to the bathroom on the wet grass.  They absolutely despise wet paws.

Best Trick? Dozer does a football huddle. He grabs his football and when you try to grab it, he huddles the ball so you can get it back. Now, I’m not sure if anyone else things this is a trick, but in my mind, he knows how to play football. Bon-Bon can walk on her hind feet and comes to you for attention. I call this little trick the bear crawl. She is so talented.

Gear? My babies have lots of outfits. They dress up for the holidays and are always dressed for the season in different and adorable outfits.

If your dogs were another animal what animal would they be? Well Bon-Bon would be a tiger. She has no fear and no matter how big the dog is, she holds her own. Dozer would be a bird so he can fly away from Bon-Bon. She is adorable but she torments my Dozer at times and he gets extremely annoyed. My poor baby.

As a designer, do you have any tips for incorporating dog-themed decor into a space — without looking like a crazy person? I love pet furniture, especially the high end furniture for dogs that you can place in your living room without it looking like a “dog bed”. I have seen fabulous couches and beds for dogs that I would even sit on. If I were to build a home,  I would have a bedroom just for my dogs. With a coffee table, fabulous artwork, area rugs, toys, televisions, music and a fabulous chandelier. How fun would that be!?

Thanks David, Dozer, and Bon-Bon!

Capree has a deep love of Victorian-era “fancy lads”, 19th Century anatomy drawings, and tin robots. She loves big, bold colors and big, bold patterns. Oh, and anything well-designed, especially if it’s something she can sit in.
