I am beyond thrilled to get the Scoop on Reggie and Charles, two of the cutest dogs you’ll ever meet and the canine muses of artist and illustrator Lauren Gregg (whose awesome work we’ve featured before). When she’s not busy painting cute creatures or illustrating pop culture icons, she’s creating animations with her best friend under the name Kangaroo Alliance. Lauren has made things for Nickelodeon, Disney Television, Yo Gabba Gabba and even “commercials about tampons and homeless pets”. Her paintings have hung in galleries across the U.S. since 2003. Let’s meet the pups that inspire this talented artist, shall we?

What’s “The Scoop”?
I got Charles 7 years ago, right when I moved to Athens from Brooklyn. I was so excited to finally have space for a dog, and Charles was my first. I got him when he was just a tiny little marshmallow from a backyard breeder way out in the country, and soon after discovered that he had a congenital eye disease called Progressive Retinal Atrophy. A year later he was completely blind. It broke my heart, but Charles’ tenacious little spirit never wavered. In fact, most people don’t even notice that he’s blind (until he bumps into that occasionally misplaced chair!). The doggie ophthalmologist suggested getting another dog to be Charles’ seeing eye dog, and really just so he could have a buddy. I ended up getting Reggie from a breeder in Atlanta and I’m so glad I did. He’s the sweetest brother to Charles, and an all around hilarious guy with a real zest for life. I really lucked out with both of these guys!
Favorite Toy? Charles likes any rubbery toy that he can squeak, slobber all over, and throw around the house like a maniac. He also loves going to the park and hunting down tennis balls. Reggie is really into toys he can chew on, and our favorite for him is actually a toy I saw on Dog Milk — the Bionic Bone from Bionic Pet Products. It really has been the only toy he hasn’t been able to chew apart!
Favorite Food? Reggie has severe allergies, and after years of many different food trials we’ve found that the only food he’s able to eat without having a terrible reaction is a prescription diet made from kangaroo meat! So he and Charles both eat kangaroo and oats, and they both REALLY love it.
Favorite place to sleep? We have little dog beds at the foot of our bed for them (though they’d prefer to sleep in bed with my husband and I). Reggie’s really good about sleeping in his bed. Charles usually ends up sleeping in the clothes hamper!
Pet Peeves? They’re thankfully both pretty happy go lucky. Reggie’s not a huge fan of the rain, and Charles get’s real sad when you talk on the phone.
Best Trick? Charles can sit, lay down, and stand up! Reggie really loves learning new tricks and knows a bunch. He can sit, lay down, high five, bow, sing, jump, look left (we’re working on looking right), and skateboard!
Gear? Charles prefers to be naked, but Reggie likes to wear a hoodie when it gets cold.
If your dogs were another animal what animal would they be? Charles would be a bat/bunny hybrid and Reggie would be a bear/pig.
If Reggie and Charles were cast in a re-make of an iconic movie, what movie would that be and which characters would they play? Tommy Boy. Reggie would be Tommy and Charles would be Richard!
Thanks Lauren, Reggie, and Charles!
