To our American readers, Happy Thanksgiving! My pups and I have much to be thankful for today, namely that we found each other way back when — when they were sitting in shelters and I was looking for a dog to love. With so many awesome animals looking for forever homes, The Shelter Pet Project has recently launched a new informational and PSA campaign designed to help homeless pets and loving homes find one another.
The Shelter Pet Project is a collaboration between the Humane Society of the United States, Maddie’s Fund, and the Ad Council. Their goal is “to make shelters the first place potential adopters turn when looking to get a new pet, ensuring that all healthy and treatable pets find loving homes.” Their new campaign’s tagline is “A person is the best thing to happen to a shelter pet,” and the adorable and hilarious print ads, radio and TV spots focus on the relationships between adopted pets and their humans. (The print ads, like those shown above, feature images by renowned pet photographer Grace Chon.) You can check out all the campaign materials here.
The Shelter Pet Project’s website also contains great information about pet adoption (including educational materials debunking many of the stereotypes that stigmatize shelter pets) as well as tools to help you find a shelter in your area.
If you’re thankful for your pup’s companionship today, how about grabbing the link to one of The Shelter Pet Project’s PSA videos and sharing it with your friends? (Then get back to guarding that turkey and stuffing from you-know-who.)
