It’s summer (let’s all take a moment to do a celebratory dance), and for many this sunny time of year means seaside adventures. If you don’t live near a beach, though, don’t despair! The good folks at P.L.A.Y. are bringing the ocean to you with their new Under the Sea plush dog toy collection.

King crabs, starfish, giant squid, sea turtles, and clams (oh my!) — all filled with P.L.A.Y.’s certified-safe PlanetFill filler. This eco-friendly filler is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles and, like all of P.L.A.Y.’s plush toys, is encased within a double layer exterior with inverse cross-stitched joints. What does that all mean? These toys are extra-durable! (Smash is still thrashing his Garden Fresh pumpkin around — four months later.)
Like P.L.A.Y.’s Garden Fresh toys, the new Under the Sea toys are hand-made according to the same strict quality standards used in manufacturing infant and children’s products. Meanwhile, the bright, playful colors are achieved using AZO-free dye. In a word, they’re just about the safest squeaker-filled plush toys you can get. (Speaking of squeakers, these suckers are loud!)
I don’t know if Wrigley and Smash are “extra special”, but their toys get super filthy, super fast. Fortunately, these toys are machine washable and 100% dryer-friendly. After a good afternoon play session, they were ready for a wash (especially the lighter colored clam and starfish). I ran them through the washer and dryer without any problems and, most importantly (according to Smash), the squeaker still worked. Hooray!
The Under the Sea collection isn’t just ridiculously adorable, super durable, and eco-friendly, though. In keeping with P.L.A.Y.’s continued commitment to helping animals in need, 2% of all proceeds benefit the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to aid in its mission to reduce the commercial exploitation of animals, protect wildlife habitats, and assist animals in distress.
