Inagawa Cemetery Warehouse is a minimalist space located in Hyogo, Japan, designed by Key Operation Inc. The warehouse of Inagawa Reien will provide functional support to the administrative wing originally designed by David Chipperfield Architects. Although the space will not be accessible by the public, the building’s placement at the entrance to the cemetery grounds means that visitors will see this building first.
The building will serve as an important symbolic structure, especially for those who pass by the cemetery grounds frequently by car. The warehouse serves as a maintenance facility for the property that extends to 150,000 square meters, and provides a car park, refrigeration unit for flowers, workshop space, and storage.
The warehouse has enough clearance to allow for delivery trucks to park their vehicles within. The entry to the workshop, which is adjacent the car park and refrigerator, is accessible via a series of large siding doors. When fully opened, the sliding doors provide seamless integration between the car park and workshop for easier deliveries.
