I guess I never considered prettying up a board game (although I do love this designer edition of Scrabble), but Fredericks & Mae have recreated the games of Backgammon and Checkers that are much more visually appealing to me than the traditional color scheme and patterns that I’m used to. I love the patterns they created using simple geometries.

As someone who loves backgammon (and design), I would never play on this board. It is visually distracting and hard to “read.” You should be able to see your moves at a glance. This board makes your eyes dart around.

I couldn’t agree more. Sure, the design could be considered “pretty”, but it’s really pointless decoration. The squares on the checkerboard serve no purpose. All they really do is make the alternating squares harder to tell apart.
