The BLOCK Collection by Apparatus is as it sounds – a collection of four different products that are centered around block shapes. Each product explores the relationship between contrasting materials and shapes. However, all the products are essentially brass containers held in cast crystal bases.
Each of the four pieces has a hollow brass capsule, and its purpose is left to the user. The molten Swedish Barium Crystal is a solid base that acts as a plinth, and is meant to look like a block of ice. Despite its weightless appearance, the crystal is hefty enough to support the brass. Combined together, the collection is a study in opposites – between light and heavy, fragile and unbreakable, stable and unstable.
