Look again. This isn’t a MacBook. It’s an iPad and the new Brydge. Brydge is a device for your iPad that turns your handy tablet into a laptop.

The Brydge has a full-size, aluminum keyboard, with or without speakers, that features a heavy-duty clamp to hold your iPad in place. The device has a hinge that allows you to open and view your iPad at any angle and then close down when you’re done. After it’s closed up, both the iPad and Brydge will go to sleep. I love the fact that the Brydge resembles the aesthetics of an Apple product and that it makes the iPad that much easier to use while on the go or at home.

Roughly the same size as a MacBook Air!

The Brydge connects via Bluetooth just like any other device you have.

Currently still in the funding phase on Kickstarter, the campaign winds down on June 4th and is more than 4x fully funded. They are expected to ship the product mid-October with the price being around $170 for the original model and $210 for the speaker model.

That’s a neat little idea and all, but I thought the whole idea of the ipad was that it’s small. The macbook air’s keyboard is thinner than that and it has a computer inside.

Love it! I’m a backer now. Big fan of Kickstarter. Be a backer of new and innovative projects!

I agree with Travis – why would you buy this if you already have a laptop? If you can’t use the iPad’s touchscreen, perhaps you should just learn how to, or not buy one. I guess I’m just not that blown away by design-oriented consumption.
