The newest design from Strala is called Calmares, a light sculpture in two sizes that was designed to include several dozen energy-saving fluorescent tubes, each of which consumes just 24 watts of energy. “Calmares I” has 73 connected bulbs to form a spherical light and the smaller “Calmares II” has 13. The clustering and precise ordering allows the energy-saving bulbs to become graceful objects of beauty. The lamps resemble a freeze frame of an exploding firework or a starry sky, emitting soft, warm light. I’m a fan.
