The Early Rider is a “balance bike,” which is a pedal-less bike that helps teach kids to balance and self-correct at their own speed. Now available overseas, the Early Rider is the #1 selling balance bike in Europe and is available in three sizes.

Unlike most other balance bikes on the market, the Early Rider features “Fat Boy” rear tires for extra stability and comfort. And unlike most other balance bikes on the market, the Early Rider comes in three sizes, for smaller and larger preschoolers and kindergartners. The Lite version, designed for kids as young as 20 months all the way up to 4 years old, is the lightest balance bike you can find, weighing in at just 7.2 lbs. The Classic and Evolution are designed for 2-to-5-year-olds.

  1. Hm, where are all the helicopter parents gearing the kids up with extra helmets and padding? Ohh, this vid must not be set in America.

    So friggin’ cute.

  2. “the Early Rider is the #1 selling balance bike in Europe” … I doubt it very very much. Maybe in English speaking countries where people are gullible enough to shell out GBP90 for something like this because for years they’ve been buying plastic shite for their kids.

These kinds of wooden balance bikes are the norm here in Germany, indeed in most mainland European countries, and they certainly don’t cost that ridiculous sum.

There you go, a quick search and there’s a pretty one for €35:

  3. I bought on at kinderenkoning and very very happy with it!

  4. Hi Ed, It’s indeed a pretty bike BUT it’s completky not the same. I’m an owner of a webshop http://www.kinderenkoning.be and started with cheaper models half a year ago.

But when you compare both bicycles the price difference is immedialty clear. It’s like you compare a BMW with a eat Ibiza. Both look nice but the Early Rider is much more robust and made of quality wood. If you want a bike that serve for different children buy a decent one. If you wanna bike for one season, buy a cheap one.

  5. This is just a copy cat of the like-a-bike which also comes in several sizes.

  6. Best balance bike on the market, period. Top of the line quality and style. I’ve had one for my son for the last year and a half and anyone with an eye for design comments on it. I’m an engineer, and most of my friends are in the field, and you can’t say enough about the wood work and craftsmanship. My son turns 4 and I very much expect him to be able to tackle a bike without training wheels.
