Free Float: A Modern Pool House in Sands Point, New York

The UP Studio was hired when a family of four longed to build a pool cabana that favored the style of their neo-traditional house in Sands Point, New York. After learning that type of design wouldn’t meet their requirements, they asked the firm to create a modern pool house that wouldn’t obstruct views of the Long Island Sound or other part of the family’s property.

Free Float consists of zero columns, instead utilizing a cantilevered steel overhang for sun protection and shade. Underneath, there’s room for lounge chairs, a dining table, and a full service bar.

A living green wall of plants adds life to the brick wall that faces the pool.

Around back, there’s an outdoor shower out of view from the pool.

Inside the structure, there’s a bathroom and changing room for convenience.
