The following post is brought to you by Lutron. Our partners are hand-picked by the Design Milk team because they represent the best in design.
We were so lucky that when we moved into our home, there were pretty decent window coverings already installed because if there’s one thing our house doesn’t have a shortage of, it’s windows! However, if you’ve ever tried to purchase quality blinds and shades, then you know it can be pretty expensive… If I needed shades now, I’d definitely be considering the new Serena Shades from Lutron. You might recognize Lutron’s name – they make lighting controls (I have a few in my house).

So what does a lighting controls manufacturer have to do with shades? Well, Serena Shades are remote-controlled motorized cellular shades. Yup – press a button and they go up. Press another button, they go down. Like a switch! This could be really useful in my house because I spend a lot of time just standing there pulling on the chains of my window shades… Sounds expensive, but they actually start at $299 and use standard D batteries. Plus, Serena shades feature new patent-pending Triathlon™ power technology, which extends the shade’s battery life up to three years.
The most frustrating thing for me when encountering new technology like this is the limitations, such as design or fabric, but the Serena shades are available in three styles of fabrics in 50 different colors (free fabric samples here!), all of which allow different levels of light to filter into a room: Single Cell Light Filtering, Double Cell Light Filtering or Single Cell Blackout.
Lutron is offering a Design Milk reader the chance to make a big difference in one room: one lucky winner will receive a voucher for $599 for Serena Shades.
Rules: To enter, answer this question in the comments section: Why do you need Serena shade? To cover an ugly view, save on heating/cooling costs, change your room’s decor, to put in a hard to reach window?
One entry per person. Open to US residents only. Contest runs from July 9, 2012 through 12 PM Midnight ET on July 13, 2012. We will choose a winner at random.
Sorry, this giveaway has expired.

To integrate into my home theater setup
Chris Landgraff on 07.10.2012 at 19:22 PM
I could use a set of Lutron shades to replace a set of broken Somfy roller shades in our two living room windows. We had water damage from a storm and the windows and shades need to be replaced. These look like much higher quality shades than what we can afford.
Mia on 07.09.2012 at 09:19 AM
We have a south-facing window that gets lots of sun, which makes for high cooling costs in the summer. The shades would be great for that room!
Chris on 07.09.2012 at 09:21 AM
I need these because I live in a Mid Century Modern home with walls of windows. The sun blasts in and cooks the house in the early evening and curtains just don’t fit into the decor.
Corey on 07.09.2012 at 09:40 AM
Our apartment is quite small compared to the dimensions and the quantity of furniture pieces inherited from my great-grandmother. So opening/closing blinds always requires a great deal of scrambling and climbing on top of desks and lunging for the necessary chords (I have a bruise on my hip to prove it)!
Jeremy Morgan on 07.09.2012 at 09:40 AM
I have a beautiful view, about 6 hours a day. The rest of the time, the sun is eithier blasting directly through the windows or reflecting off some surface and blinding anyone looking through them.
Jim Siercke on 07.09.2012 at 09:50 AM
The man cave could use some great black out shades! Especially ones that I can close without having to actually move to close!
shawnie kelley on 07.09.2012 at 09:55 AM
we put an addition on our home, which includes a master bedroom, turret, and sunroom- each with loads of windows requiring some sort of covering. We prefer shades to curtains — just a better fit with our aesthetic.
Rajeev Iyer on 07.09.2012 at 10:01 AM
I have a loft that is slowly baking from the summer 100 degree+ heat wave, and windows that are too high for my sister to reach for the shades. This will help reduce the burning and open to the public effect without having to call someone 6 feet or taller to get the blinds.
Marilyn Wons on 07.09.2012 at 10:04 AM
I need Serena Shades for my den. The sun glares on the tv and in ones eyes and nothing seems to help.
Kathy Scott on 07.09.2012 at 10:08 AM
Living in Idaho we do not have air conditioning. Lately we really needed it. Yesterday 95. I need some shades to help keep the house cooler.
jennifer on 07.09.2012 at 10:13 AM
The present shades need replaced. It would help to watch movies in the dark when its too hot to go outdoors & keeping the indoor climate controlled is a plus! Electric bills can get outrageous.
Liza Mueller on 07.09.2012 at 10:14 AM
This is a big week for me – my husband and I will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and are also closing on our first home purchase. We live in NYC so it’s an expensive move into a small place that needs work – to have window coverings at least partially covered would be amazing!
Julie Hsieh on 07.09.2012 at 10:16 AM
I live in a studio converted from a warehouse with very high ceilings and very tall windows. We leave the shades closed mostly out of laziness, but it would be great to have remote-controlled shades to let the sun in every once in a while!
Susan A on 07.09.2012 at 10:20 AM
I really could use some new shades in my living room, my cat and grandkids absolutely destroyed the old ones!
Ken G. on 07.09.2012 at 10:23 AM
To save on cooling costs. Currently we have out door shades and we have to leave them down all the time due to the inconvenience of lowering and raising them. This of course affects our view.
Joe K on 07.09.2012 at 10:25 AM
I am renting a condo. The one place I don’t have any shade is the back door, where the sun comes in and bakes the kitchen in the morning. It gets so hot. This shade would be a perfect solution to solve that.
Robin on 07.09.2012 at 10:33 AM
Oooh, great giveaway! And what perfect timing! :)
I happen to be finishing a small storefront where I’ll be running my business (I’m a vintage dealer) and the large front windows need some coverage. I’ve been pricing out blinds, but I like these shades far better than anything I’ve seen. Plus the convenience of the remote cannot be beat!
Cindy C on 07.09.2012 at 10:52 AM
I need them for an ugly window
Jennifer Chadwick on 07.09.2012 at 10:55 AM
I would like Lutron Serena Shades to block the bright, hot sunlight here in Oklahoma.
Ken on 07.09.2012 at 10:58 AM
I just moved to a dorm without blinds or shades, and it’s really annoying to have a room that’s bright as a thousand suns 5am in the morning. I could really use nice shades!
Kellie O on 07.09.2012 at 10:58 AM
I need these to keep my 1 year old and 3 year old from constantly pulling at the blinds and tearing them up. These would be perfect to keep opened and closed so they could not tear them up, but easily look out the window. :-)
JimQ on 07.09.2012 at 11:00 AM
Our front doors are all glass alongside an all glass wall. So, while it’s nice to have all that light and view, easy shades would be good to enable privacy when the light and view are gon at night.
Jessica Clayton on 07.09.2012 at 11:02 AM
I worked 11pm-7am in Law Enforcement for 4 1/2 years & on a bad overtime day 11pm-3pm!! I went through hundreds of dollars searching for black out anything so I could sleep but nothing has worked :-( Save my sleep & my sanity PLEASE!! I will love you forever!!
Sue on 07.09.2012 at 11:12 AM
My daughter and her husband are living in our tiny second bedroom. The sun beats through the window in the afternoon and it becomes unbearable. It is very uncomfortable for them at night and the don’t get much sleep in the summer.
Paula Schaus on 07.09.2012 at 11:13 AM
I live in the desert and these shades would really help on cutting down on the heat coming through the windows.

my kids have blockouts but we do not. why? because parent.
Matthew on 07.09.2012 at 11:23 AM
My bedroom has several windows and the street light at night really keeps me up at night. I’d love to have some blackout shades to make my room pitch black and get some better shut-eye.
Suneel janga on 07.09.2012 at 11:26 AM
We recently bought a new home and we are considering Hunter Douglas, but after reading this article I feel like changing my mind. I would like these shades in my living room.
Jordan Long on 07.09.2012 at 11:28 AM
Every morning when the sun comes up, it shines directly through my window and wakes me up. Its very annoying. Help me solve this problem with a new shade!
John Nielsen on 07.09.2012 at 11:28 AM
My Kitchen gets super hot in the afternoons, and i would like to be able to block out the heat in the winter and keep the heat in, in the winter.
Debra McDowell on 07.09.2012 at 11:29 AM
A motorized shade would be great over our foyer window that lets in lots of sunlight. It’s up about 20 ft and this would make controlling the sunlight and heat a breeze.
tami on 07.09.2012 at 11:30 AM
we need this to keep our bedroom cool in the summer. it gets the afternoon sun and takes forever to cool down when we get home from work and turn the A/C on!
Merlin Williams on 07.09.2012 at 11:32 AM
With the heat being in the triple digits for the past two weeks, the AC is having a hard time keeping the house cool. Electronic shades to control the sun coming thru the windows on the East and West side would be great and would really help the AC load.
Ian on 07.09.2012 at 11:33 AM
To keep scary neighbors from eyeballing my family! Natural light is great for my front room studio, but it doesn’t leaving anything to the imagination at night.
Melissa on 07.09.2012 at 11:36 AM
I need some shades! My husband and I just moved into a nice new apartment in NYC and are lucky enough to have a wall full of windows. In the late afternoon the sun comes blazing in and we need a better solution than tin foil! :)
Matthew on 07.09.2012 at 11:36 AM
These would be perfect to enhance the look of my room as well as impressing friends!

To cover the huge windows that face the street! I have some really ugly curtains doing the job now because I can’t find/decide on an option that I can afford!
Alex on 07.09.2012 at 11:56 AM
To replace ugly curtains in living room. Prefer shades anyway.
john hutchens on 07.09.2012 at 11:56 AM
living in alaska it would be great with the 24 hours of daylight. I spend so much time pulling shades up/down , crazy. LOL
JoDeen Wolff on 07.09.2012 at 12:04 PM
The Serena Shade would go wonderfully in my breakfast nook.
The remote controlled shade would be so convenient.
I receive morning sun which is very warm. This would sure help my cooling costs!
Theresa on 07.09.2012 at 12:07 PM
Would be an added plus to have remote blinds with a person that has back issues. Plus the quality would just enhance our room.
Julie on 07.09.2012 at 12:09 PM
I would love these because we only have 3 windows in our whole house. We also have a cat you loves free-flowing shades. He’s ruined all of our current shades. So these would be a welcome change. Also heating/cooling has been a big problem so convenient remote shades will help us krep cool/warm air in when we need it.
Cindy Peterson on 07.09.2012 at 12:09 PM
I do need Shades as my current blinds are so old they are yellow and turning to dust!
Paula Kennedy on 07.09.2012 at 12:23 PM
I am moving into a new office space that has a large window that doesn’t open for air, and it gets the afternoon sun which just cooks the room. The window is also up high and hard to reach. I desparately need black out shades. I also just got set up to sell these blinds to my kitchen and bath clients. How wonderful would it be to have first hand knowledge and be able to show them. Thank you so much!
JOHN MCKEEL on 07.09.2012 at 12:25 PM
The glare from the outside, when we are at the dinng room table makes it uncomfortable for the people seated on the side facing the windows. We are always adjusting the plantation shutters presently there to keep the light out of their eyes.
William on 07.09.2012 at 12:25 PM
To save on heating/cooling cost.
June on 07.09.2012 at 12:36 PM
These would be great in the kitchen, the window by the sink is hard to get to and there isn’t a cord for the baby to try to kill himself with.
Carrie on 07.09.2012 at 12:38 PM
I need a Serena Shade to help cut down on heating and cooling costs. We live in an older house and this is always a concern. Thanks for the giveaway!!
Sarah M on 07.09.2012 at 12:48 PM
Definitely to save on cooling costs! Like another reader, our living room is south facing so we get a ton of sun and in the summer it heats up quickly.

James on 07.09.2012 at 12:52 PM
We’re having a terrible time finding window dressings for the bedroom (we still have those temporary blinds that are like big post-it notes and I’m tired of looking at them). These would be great!
John on 07.09.2012 at 12:54 PM
Serena Shades are so versatile. They go in any room.
I would love to put one in my bedroom.
The morning Sun peeks in real early. Would love to be able to sleep in a bit on the weekends!
Eric on 07.09.2012 at 12:54 PM
I want to integrate these shades with a home automation system that will close the shades when it senses that I am not at home, which will help to save money on my AC bill.
Donna Bitting on 07.09.2012 at 13:02 PM
We bought some cheap shades for the living room. We needed 3 separate panels. Well home depot, did cut them to size, but I don’t think it helped them work. They have long strings on them, can’t cut those and everytime I vacuum, I end up fighting to get the strings out of the vacuum. We are not happy with the shades and they don’t really work all that great. Sometimes it is hard to get them back up. We really need the shades, since the afternoon sun comes in and then we can’t see the TV screen. We have lutron switches around the house and they are a quality product. They would also help with keeping our livingroom, cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Would love to have these for our house. We will be celebrating 30 years of marriage next year and have been in this house since 1983.
Teresa McDaniel on 07.09.2012 at 13:05 PM
I need these, because the ones I have are broken.

Sarah on 07.09.2012 at 13:15 PM
For cooling.
Sue on 07.09.2012 at 13:21 PM
The window is wide and lets in too much sun when it is hot. It is awkward to get at the window to close the blind as there is furniture in front of the window. Also the blind is heavy and often gets uneven when I pull it down. When other people pull it down they often leave sticky finger residue on the shade.

Would like to start daylight harvesting
Jason Davis on 07.09.2012 at 13:50 PM
I would love to have those. I have my livingroom on the west side of the house and in the evenings, we constantly have to close the blinds and raise them in the morning. These would really help us out.
Ryan on 07.09.2012 at 14:02 PM
I would use these shades to integrate darken the room while watching movies and also to save on heating/cooling costs. They would be a HUGE improvement over the existing drapes. Good luck, everyone!
Danielle M on 07.09.2012 at 14:03 PM
My parents are in the process of renovating their entire kitchen from scratch, with my father doing most of the work himself. Our living/dining area is relatively open concept, and our large living room windows are our main source of light into both spaces. For the 14 years we have lived in this house, my mom has never been able to find the right shades, and has left these windows bare. These Lutron Serena shades would be the perfect complement to her new kitchen, and would help with the eyesore that is our bare living room windows!
Carrie M on 07.09.2012 at 14:24 PM
I need a remote control shade to cover a window I need a ladder to get to. It is also a west facing window so the afternoon sun comes blazing in.
Sarah Howard on 07.09.2012 at 14:32 PM
I have a vertical blind on an over sized patio door that is falling apart. This door is used often and because of the large size regular blinds and drapes are very heavy and difficult to open/close. Since both myself, family and pets use this door frequently I believe the remote control Serena Shades would solve our problems. Also, living in Florida the summers are hot and we need good window treatments to keep cool and help minimize the hard working AC unit.
Thanks for offering this wonderful giveaway.
Ann Ketter on 07.09.2012 at 14:52 PM
I love to fall asleep looking at the night sky, but can’t because of the then necessary morning/daylight scramble to get the shades closed. Shades would bring me contentment and sweet dreams
Lorri S on 07.09.2012 at 14:56 PM
We have bare windows right now and this sounds perfect for our french doors!
Kim Baird on 07.09.2012 at 15:18 PM
I need some new shades because the current ones were new in 1950. My husband thinks they’re antiques, but they are in bad shape, and not fixable!
Andie on 07.09.2012 at 15:18 PM
I need the Serena shades because I moved into my house in February, 2005 and I STILL have paper blinds in the living room. I also live in an older home and think blinds like these would reduce my heating and cooling costs.
Jose Salinas on 07.09.2012 at 15:23 PM
To cover the bright light of the morning sun that weak me up in summer, and also to make the room more cold.
Traci on 07.09.2012 at 15:27 PM
I just renovated (turning my attic into the master suite) and I would love new shades to save on heating and cooling as well as for room darkening on Saturday mornings.
JOY on 07.09.2012 at 15:36 PM

Kendra on 07.09.2012 at 15:36 PM
I have three east-facing bedroom windows!
Davina Medina on 07.09.2012 at 15:36 PM
I WOULD LOVE ONE OF THESE WINDOW SHADES BECAUSE I HAVE 2 ROOMS THAT ARE IN CONSTANT SUNLIGHT. I ALSO HAVE 2 GUINEA PIGS WHICH ARE IN THE MAIN ROOM AND ARE TEMPERATURE SENSITIVE. THAT ROOM NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE FANS,WINDOWS OPEN,ETC CAN NEVER GET COOL! I FEEL BAD FOR THE ANIMALS WHEN I GO OFF TO WORK.
Kristel on 07.09.2012 at 15:45 PM
We need one to control the light from the amazing skylight in our loft! It floods the house with light, which is wonderful, except when early sun wakes us up early. This would be such a great solution for our home.
april on 07.09.2012 at 15:46 PM
We have a large (4×6) window on the south end of our tiny house that just lets in too much heat during the summer. Right now I have it covered with foil to reflect the heat out – this would be such a great replacement and help save on cooling costs.
Jennifer B. on 07.09.2012 at 16:12 PM

We live on a very busy road……the Serena Shades will help us hide the rush hour traffic!
Sara P. on 07.09.2012 at 17:21 PM
This would be so perfect for the windows in my living room. They are hard to reach, and have really ugly shades on them (from the previous owners). More importantly, anything that will help regutae and save on heating costs gets an A+ in my book!!

I need these because – well I recently married a great guy, who thought he would be a life long bachelor. He has a potentially great house I am trying to make into a home. It is in the country and we have great views so he thinks that privacy is not a concern. Yeah right – … so I need these to give us some privacy in our bedroom with the ability to open them up and still see the view

My fiancé and I will be closing on our first home in a few weeks and have spent the majority of our savings in the process. The home does not have any window treatments and it would be awhile before we could afford anything. Being selected for this contest would help us out tremendously and keep us from having to use sheets and blankets as curtains and blinds for the coming months.
dgroseph on 07.09.2012 at 21:24 PM
we have a bedroom, and it could definitely be more private. it’s nice to have sunlight pour in between the blinds in the morning, but it’s not nice to have our business pour out. and how great to turn on the sun in the morning right from the bed!

I just bought a house for my daughter and I after years of living in a tiny apartment. Our new house has beautiful, bright and open windows so that I can look out back from the kitchen where she will be playing in the backyard. I would love to have these beautiful blinds to add character to my house and allow us to have the privacy and convenience that we would love!

Gail on 07.09.2012 at 22:17 PM
I need shades because my new hubby had NONE. AT. ALL. in the whole house. He just isn’t into decorating. sigh. I did manage to get two for the dining area since the sun blasts in right in his eyes at dinner, which was never a problem when he ate out for every meal as a bachelor. Still working on the rest of the house.

Our bedroom has windows on 3 sides and skylights on top of all that! It’s very bright especially in the morning, and rather hot in the summer.
Chris on 07.10.2012 at 00:58 AM
I need the Serena Shade because my condo (which faces another high-rise) has fantastic floor-to-ceiling windows but no blinds! The best part is that my bed is directly in front of one of these windows so my neighbors get to watch me sleep! Sure, they’d help for reasons like cooling costs and enhanced luxury, but the big thing for me is to finally get some much needed privacy!
Gayle on 07.10.2012 at 01:18 AM
First of all, we had 5 new windows installed a year ago & * still * dont have window coverings !… the windows face the sun much of the day : I really need shades , not so much for privacy , ( windows are @ back of house, facing the garden & patio ) but to block out the heat / sun rays.
Beth Egdall on 07.10.2012 at 01:23 AM
My fiance gets migraines that make him very light and heat sensitive. The room we spend the most time in is the hottest and sunniest in the whole house. Blackout cellular shades would make a huge difference in there for him and it would reduce some of the energy cost.

My top level apartment nearly reaches 100 degrees in the afternoon as the sun beams in. These shades would help block the sun and prevent my air conditioner from running constantly!

I want the shades to cut the glare when it’s time to watch a movie
Cynthia on 07.10.2012 at 08:01 AM
Ah, the convenience of a remote control, the beauty of Lutron Serena Shades, to switch between privacy, temperature control, and enjoying the view, all at the touch of a button. You can’t beat it!
Lucrecia on 07.10.2012 at 08:10 AM
We need Serena´s for our living room windows, we receive a lot of friends and they sleep in the sofa bed, so it would be nice if they can just press a button an make darker the room.
Thanks for this excellent giveaway !

Sleeping is not as easy as it use to be. I would love add to my master bedroom so I get a good night sleep.
Diana Castro on 07.10.2012 at 08:52 AM
We have a guest bedroom and the sun comes up on that window in the morning. I would like to make our guests or family more comfortable when they come over.It would be nice to be able to sleep better and long if they had if the room was dark and cooler with Lutron Serena Shades.
Michele Cook on 07.10.2012 at 08:59 AM
We can’t keep this house cool. It’s been so hot in VA, i turn the A/C on 65 and it’s 78/80 in here all day. It’s a new A/C so I assume it’s b/c the windows are old and so drafty.
Johnie C on 07.10.2012 at 09:05 AM
Our windows are way too drafty. We rent so we can’t replace them ourselves. The wind and cold in the winter coming through the cracks is crazy. Our electric bill runs high due to this.
Andrew Gordon on 07.10.2012 at 09:13 AM
So I can get some sleep
Eleca Dunham on 07.10.2012 at 09:37 AM

TO MUCH SUNS IN MY LIVINGROOM WINDOWS IT WILL STAY COOLER AND LOOK ALOT BETTER
Dale S on 07.10.2012 at 09:56 AM
I would not receive these shades for my own use, but I would offer them as a gift to my aging parents.
Currently, my parents are in ownership of deteriorating curtains and drapes that have been hanging since my childhood years (over 25 years). The window treatments are not only dated in style, they are also ripping in areas, and in some cases the traveling rods barely function. Only one set of drapes have a blackout liner and offers a minimal amount of much needed thermal protection.
The Serena Shades would be one of many steps in updating my parent’s window treatments, but more importantly reducing their heating/cooling costs. The remote is also a wonderful feature that would allow my parents greater ease of use in actuating the window treatments.
Valerie Glander on 07.10.2012 at 10:05 AM
My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon–ready to start the home remodel! Our house was built in the 40′s and has had numerous badly-implemented remodels since then.
We are jumping in head first to do as much as we can ourselves on a limited budget- window treatments are among the first on the list. We have a woodburning stove to heat our home over the long Michigan winters, but our windows are so inefficient! Would love to have the light filtering Lutron shades!!
Jean Benedict on 07.10.2012 at 11:02 AM
My bedroom window is back of my bed and I have a hard time reaching it. Also the afternoon sun shines in and makes it hot in the summer,

We are moving next week into an apartment in an older private home (built in the 50s) with odd-shaped windows that get a lot of sun…and we are 6 months’ pregnant! We’d like something to cover up the bedroom windows to help us–and baby.

jennifer T on 07.11.2012 at 19:08 PM
I need these shades for a number of reasons. Privacy, cooling costs, and my dog constantly looking out the front glass in order to bark at every little thing. I got rid of some terrible vertical blinds and curtains. I would love something modern.
Pamela Ray on 07.11.2012 at 19:13 PM
The west sun beats down on the west side my bedroom this shade would be a blessing to keep down the heat
James on 07.11.2012 at 19:59 PM
We have gigantic windows in our living room. When it gets dark, it feels like we live in a fish bowl, but it can be tricky closing the blinds. Also, the sun hits these windows in the evening, letting all the heat in. We only have blinds on them, but shades would insulate a lot more.
Marcela on 07.11.2012 at 22:38 PM
To combat the lovely sunlight entering my windows. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease three years ago, and my place, which I originally loved for the sunlight streaming in, has turned into my enemy. I have become light sensitive, due to medications and disease progression. New, lovely shades would provide a great reprieve!

Meilyn Weiss on 07.12.2012 at 09:01 AM
We have 20+ foot ceilings in our family room with a wall of windows, which we love. But it gets so warm in the summer time even though we have blinds on the lower windows that stay closed. We can’t reach the upper windows. Also, there’s always a glare on the TV from all the light. So the shades would be awesome for a combination of reasons: lower utility bills, more comfortable temperatures, reducing TV glare, and the remote saves us since we can’t reach the windows!
Eric on 07.12.2012 at 09:48 AM
Hard to reach south facing window above the tub

We just bought a house with plenty of windows and none of them have shades. These would be a great addition.
Josh Lipsky on 07.12.2012 at 10:32 AM
The blinds in our kitchen are horrendous. They are wood blinds but the connecting strings are mangled and the blinds will not open/close as intended. We have to manually flip each slat open or closed when desired. It is horrible and really takes away from how our kitchen has the potential of looking. We can get the blinds fixed but they are expensive and we always have a different reason to spend money. Yay home-owning!
Melissa A. on 07.12.2012 at 10:35 AM
I have a window high above my front door. A Lutron shade is the only kind of shade that would work here, as you cannot reach this window without a ladder. Unfortunately, this window allows the neighborhood to see the hallway for the bedrooms very clearly. So you don’t dare ever step out of your own bedroom in your underwear (or heavens forbid, less) or your neighbors can see absolutely everything.
Mary G on 07.12.2012 at 11:02 AM
So the chords don’t get tangled and I can have my shades/blinds raise on the same level.

Lighting is very important to me, and as a designer all the options Lutron Serena Shades offer are the perfect combination for an amazing window treatment for anyone and any room.
Sarah Austin on 07.12.2012 at 12:12 PM
I could really use some shades in my master bath. Thers a couple reasons. There are two windows that are in full sun because they face west, there are no currect coverings for privacy or heat/cooling, and I have to stand in the tub to get to the windows. A rmote on shades would be very handy.
Alan on 07.12.2012 at 12:49 PM
I’ve recently began learning how to create lighting control systems with Lutron’s Homeworks software. Haven’t been able to get much real world practice because a lot of Lutron devices are expensive. I would love the opportunity to learn how to integrate shades into a home’s lighting system. My room is at the back corner of the house and gets really warm as the sun rises. All that sun also makes it hard to continue sleeping. I would like these shades to “black out” my room (which also doubles as a home theater) from the intense heat and sunlight and the chance to further my knowledge of Lutron’s shade devices would be great!
Nancy Kee on 07.12.2012 at 13:18 PM

Joe on 07.12.2012 at 15:38 PM
I need Serena shades to block out the heat that comes in our West facing window during this relentless Midwest heat wave. Our window is so high we can not reach the top of it so having Serena would allow us to automatically cover the window without having to climb a step stool to reach the top. During the winter we would open the shade to allow the sun to warm the house and save additional energy.
Sonya on 07.12.2012 at 15:43 PM
We’ve lived in our house for 18 months and haven’t bought any shades yet! Plus so many of our windows are tough to reach, so I leave them closed a LOT! I’d love the option for more sun without climbing over furniture!
Joan Adolf on 07.12.2012 at 15:56 PM

I really need these for the dining room window !!
Chris W. on 07.12.2012 at 17:38 PM
We could use a set of Lutron Serena shades for several reasons. In our livingroom, we have a cathedral ceiling and two of the windows are at the very top of the ceiling, 13 feet up. Through these south facing windows, the sun shines all day directly into the livingroom. We have had tint applied to reflect as much of the sun and glare back out as possible but it has improved the situation only slightly. During the winter, we love to have these windows mostly uncovered so we can watch the snow storms come in. If they were covered with an unmovable type of window covering, we’d lose that opportunity. The Lutrin Serena Shades would completely address ever issue we have been unable to correct. The glare, heat and height issues can easily overcome by using your product. Please allow us to win your shades.

Why do you need Serena shade? To cover an ugly view, save on heating/cooling costs, change your room’s decor, to put in a hard to reach window?
I have ugly mini blinds that my dogs have torn up trying to look out the windows. They are horrible for trying to keep in any cool/hot air and I know I am wasting heating/cooling costs because of it. I would love to have new coverings that make my home look elegant.
Su on 07.12.2012 at 23:29 PM

Back in October I bought and moved into my first condo. I couldn’t afford the extra up front cost for blinds so I’ve been living without them for nearly 10 months now. Sometimes it feels like I’m living in a fishbowl and I’d love to finally have some privacy.

My south facing windows that get lots of light could use these.

The afternoon sun is killer and we have no trees to block since the previous owners took all the topsoil and all of the mature trees died. :(

I would use this shade in my upstairs entry. I have been through 3 different brands and this would fit the area perfectly!

So I cover a window I would never have covered and sleep in without the sun waking me up!

We need these shades to cut down on heating and cooling costs and to change the look of my family room. We live in a place where it is super hot (avg. 96 degrees) in the summer!

We have a big window in our living room and our problem is more keeping the room warm in winter rather than keeping it cool in summer – though both are a concern. Right now we just have curtains that fall on each side and don’t cover up the window. It would be nice to be able to install a shade there!

I need to save on heating & cooling costs and protect my furniture from fading from the sun with a new Serena shade.

I need a Serena Shade to help keep out the heat during summer to save on our energy costs. It will replace a cracked and broken mini blind. Thanks for the contest.

My husband is an artist, and he constantly needs to adjust the light conditions in the room while painting.
