ModKnobs is a new company producing modern door knobs. Their story is cute: Mary & Jeff were remodeling their home and had a hard time finding cool doorknobs that were affordable. So, Jeff decided to design his own using, of all things, blue hockey pucks. After a while, Jeff started making them for friends. He developed more designs, using both pucks and reclaimed, eco-friendly PaperStone. Thus, ModKnobs was born!

Nice, but they’re no longer affordable, so how have they added anything to the marketplace. It’s just another overpriced doorknob.

Yeah, did you even look at the price? The story doesn’t add up at all. Anyone make any sense out of the price?

Hello all. This is Mary from ModKnobs. We’re thrilled with the attention we’re getting on the design circuit and thank you for taking a look. I wanted to take this chance to respond to the comments some have made about our pricing. True: we’re not a bargain doorknob. We’ve chosen to use spendy but superb Baldwin hardware (solid brass, 3 lbs./set). Several of our designs require waterjet and laser cutting. And all of our design, engineering and custom construction is done here in the U.S. We can’t compete with doorknobs mass-produced in Asia. But we can offer a nice alternative for those seeking innovative, contemporary, really well built doorknobs. We also offer a volume discount for orders of three or more sets.

There are nice modern doorknobs out there that do not cost $150 bucks a set. Even $130 per set if u buy 3 or more sets is pricey. In todays market that is outrageous.
