I have been thinking about how to utilize Twitter other than for feed updates. I thought it would be a great way to share deals, discounts, and minor news or events. For example, if the site is having technical problems, I can post that to Twitter. Or, if I find out about a late-breaking sale or last-minute event that doesn’t require a long description, I might just post it on Twitter instead of cluttering DM with tons of little posts.
What do you think? Good idea? If so, get yourself a Twitter account, and if you already have one, then be sure to follow Design Milk.
I hope you’re all enjoying your weekend!

You know…at first, I thought that Twitter was useless and self-centered — the very worst of blogging distilled into one place — but since reading some interesting pieces on ProBlogger and MediaBistro, I think I’ve seen the light.
Now I use it to promote the Modern Materialist, Freelancedom, and other work. I think it’s awesome that you’re starting one for Design Milk!

I recently had a server move go semi-wrong,
long story… But keeping my Twitter followers
updated really helped easy the pressure on
my support desk and kept my members happy.

Sounds good, although the Twitter servers get pretty congested throughout the day and I regularly have a hard time accessing my feeds. Hum … do you ever experience that?

Twitter can be some times confusing to use, but it is really helpful for rss feeds, etc. This is one of those tools that you have to know how to use or it would seem useless.

Definitely worth doing for both your site and personal use. A good example of a site that’s using Twitter for deal promotions is Woot, Amazon also has a Twitter page I believe they call Amazon Deals. Either way, Twitter is fun and easy… After writing this we noticed your ‘Follow on Twitter’ link and added you to our Follow list. Keep up the great work and keep on tweeting!
