NYCxDesign 2013: WantedDesign Part 1

For the last three years, WantedDesign has been a standout among the design events that take place during NYCxDesign and this year was no exception. With top-notch designers, students, manufacturers, and schools all exhibiting their innovative wares and collaborations, Wanted is definitely a design destination not to be missed.

Wanted-4-HP-Wallcoverings

Karim Rashid’s presence was felt pretty much as soon as you entered the building as he designed one of the lounges up front, but also because the man himself was there in the HP booth. HP had a large-format printer on site that prints custom wallcoverings, including one of Rashid’s designs below.

The incredibly talented and always entertaining Brooks Atwood of Pod Design (remember when we spent the day with him??) displayed his ever-growing collection of innovative designs, including his futuristic lighting and ultralight seating.

Wanted-7a-David-Trubridge-Installation

New Zealand lighting designer David Trubridge designed a sculptural lighting installation called ‘The Elements’ that incorporated Swarovski Elements and was done in collaboration with the above mentioned TSAR Carpets.

Wanted-9-Joe-Doucet-Hadron

Joe Doucet always has something to make you stop and pause and this year it was his Hadron piece which featured a tangled string of EL (electroluminescent) inside of glass.

Wanted-10-Fabrica

The Guatamala-based FÁBRICA made us want to take a closer look and touch. Their use of unconventional materials gives each piece a tactile quality that you want to get your hands on.
