Being the online leader in electronic payments, PayPal has just launched a new mobile payment system called PayPal Here. The triangle-shaped device plugs into your smartphone’s earphone jack and lets anyone accept credit cards. Designed by Yves Behar of fuseproject, the triangle front slides down to prevent the device from spinning around while swiping the card.

The tiny credit card reader is simple to use and features encryption to prevent theft. Charging 2.7% per transaction, PayPal Here is perfect for small business owners looking to increase business by accepting credit cards and having a smaller fee to pay. The card reader and the app that runs it are free.

Seems like a stupid novelty. I don’t see customers feeling comfortable swiping their credit card through a device mounted to the top of some person’s phone. Lol @ small business owners. If you are using PayPal as a small business owner you really need to rethink your business model.

I use PayPal and I’m a small business owner. None of my advertisers, partners or sponsors think it’s silly at all.

I use Paypal for my small business and my customers are more than comfortable with it. This device looks great and I think will be incredibly useful for craft fairs.

I’m a small business owner and I use it too. My customers don’t mind at all and financially, it is much much better than a subscription service to accept credit cards…you only pay for what you use. Makes sense to me…but maybe I need to go rethink this whole thing. :)

I just got back from a convention where every vendor except one was only taking cash. The guy that had a Square reader/app was making a killing. I can’t wait for the Paypal one. It’s not silly at all and I felt more than comfortable paying that other vendor via a similar system. These things are great for people on the road, or with an even slightly mobile business. Get with the times Dave.

I like the idea a lot. Personally, I wish it looked more like an integrated part of the iPhone case rather than a bit of Paypal identity sticking out of the top of my iPhone.

Wonder if you’ll be able to punch in the card number just like Square.

Yves Behar is super talented, but this just looks goofy. I think the Square processing device looks much more professional.

i love the redundancy of the logo and ID on the ui. it doesn’t look dumb at all.
