Herve emailed me asking if we know of an inexpensive alternative to the ch445 lounge chair designed by Hans Wegner. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, it’s not *exactly* the same…the shape is different, but the esthetic could be in the same category. i was at ikea last weekend and noticed this chair – in store it was shown in a pleasing felted-gray color. a possibility??

The Briar chair at CB2 may be a nice option. Base is different.

looks like a total knockoff–but 1/4 the price.

I bought a Wing Chair from evinco design. Doesn’t look exactly like the original, but what repro’s do? I saved a ton of money and the quality is excellent. They have great customer service. Here’s a tip… ask them for a discount, they tend to budge ;)

Jane & Jacob, thanks a lot for the suggestion. Much cheaper indeed!
The one thing that worries me a little is that it looks like they use the picture of the original for the knock-off (I compared the 2 pictures with Photoshop and they are identical). The leather knock-off looks a bit different from the original.

Actually, thank you to all for the suggestions :)

i am considering buying this very chair from evincodesign. i created a photo that put the evinco repro side by side with the original by carl hansen.
http://www.wiki1001.com/derekw/comparison.jpg
the left side is the repro’s photo taken from evinco’s flickr page (http://www.flickr.com/photos/evincodesign). the right side taken from carl hansen’s site (http://www.carlhansen.com/uk/default.html).
compared to the original, i think:
the repro’s top edge is less curvy
the repro’s arm fronts don’t taper as much towards the bottom
the repro has chrom legs rather than brushed legs
the repro’s overall shape doesn’t seem as smart/alive/dynamic/anthropomorphic
jacob – since you bought one from evinco, any chance you could take some detail photos from the same angles as the carl hansen’s photos?

Hi,
I just checked Evinco Design’s product page again for the Wing Chair. If you look at the 2nd chair, in black, thats exactly what they’re selling, and its what I got…

If that isn’t obvious, shameless self promotion, I don’t know what is!
