I just thought Design/Milk should know that this guy is a copy cat artist. He’s never had an idea of his own! the real guy is dale chihuly check it out chihuly.com .
I had a chance to check out Kaindl’s latest installation at the Escala in Seattle. Simply breathtaking. Amazing. It’s the best Art Glass piece in Seattle. While there, I asked the concierge if Kaindl did any of the work himself. They all responded “he was the only one that did all of the work”.
Chihuly hasn’t made his own work for decades nor even seen his own art installed for years. He does everything for Theater. I am sure his values are dropping quicker than Kaindl’s values are rising. Just look at Kaindl’s site http://www.RobertKaindl.com and see something that’s actually refreshingly made by the artist who claims the work as theirs.
Kaindl hired one of Chihuly’s former glass blowers to work in this workshop… Chilhuly sued him in 2006 for copyright infringement, but apparently emulation is not only the sincerest form of flattery, but also the most lucrative.
Karen, if you actually know anything about art glass you’d know that Kaindl’s work is completely different and individually creative other than the work that Chihuly’s employees make for the Chihuly company. The only similarities are the high quality of the works by each group. People from Seattle have been Drinking the Kool-Aid for far too long.
In additon, why did Chihuly even sue Kaindl anyway? Seems to me that when Kaindl countersued Chihuly it opened a lot of severe legitimacy questions that I am sure that Chihuly wouldn’t want exposed about his company. Apparently the lawsuit exposed that Chihuly isn’t involved with his company other than for the media exposure and the money. As I understand one thing brought out in the lawsuit was that Mr. Chihuly doesn’t even sign his own signature to some or all of his own work.
I am considering buying a condo in Seattle at the Escala Condos, and was thoroughly impressed with the amazing crystal white entrance chandelier. did some research on the web and found this blog. i also found this page http://www.robertkaindl.com/EscalaChandelier.htm which shows the chandelier. I have not seen anything similar to this that Chihuly has done in Seattle that even comes close to matching its beauty.
