A young couple with two children searched for months in Seattle for the perfect property and stumbled on a vacant tear down on a nice corner lot with easterly views of Lake Washington. With a limited budget, the property was perfect due to the condition of the existing foundation.

A new home was designed by Pb Elemental on the lot, located in the Leschi neighborhood of Seattle. Pb Elemental had the challenge to design a three-bedroom home that was not only modern and perfect for a young family, but within a small budget.

The two level home features the three bedrooms on the lower level, with the living (great room), kitchen and media room on the second floor. The living level is flanked with a South-facing lot capturing light and views. An exterior staircase was designed to add access to the rooftop deck which was sited privately to provide a place of refuge and relaxation. The home is connected with a steel open riser stair pulling light into the spine of the building.

So in this case, what constitutes a small budget? How do you find that out? I’m just wondering if they’re talking “rich people” small budget, <1 mil, or normal people small budget.

I too am curious as to what constitutes a small budget. Every article I read that is similar to this one invariably makes the small budget claim and usually it turns out that small is above $400,000. If you factor in the cost of the lot, we are talking over half a million dollars! C’mon people, most folks consider that something other than small.

So Sean, I checked the link that Bill recommended and also searched 203 Crockett St. (an article online said it was 160 Crockett St but the pics clearly show the 203 on the side), and like you guessed between zillow estimates and city-data, it’s right around half a million dollars (still not sure if I’ve got the right place though). Sure, it’s not what an architect would call a big budget, but hardly qualifies as cheap in my book! :)

The exterior of this house is deliscious…… however I think they blew their budget on building the home… the interior is quite boring to me….. The flooring looks like ikea flooring (which isn’t always bad, but this just looks so everyday run of the mill for the architecture of this home)

Crockett Street is in an entirely different neighborhood of Seattle. That might be their last name. If the home is indeed in or near the Leschi neighborhood and has a 203 house number, it has to be along South Washington Street on a numbered avenue. Google street view would help the very curious.

i find the exterior to be bulky but beautifully crafted. the interior is not chic it is bland.. pb elemental has had better interns doing their designs in previous years.
