Bradley L. Bowers sent me his Shell lounge and the simple design and elegant minimalism about it made me want to grab a towel and slap on a bathing suit and head to the pool. Shell is designed to bring you balance – literally and figuratively, encouraging meditation through use forcing the user to relax and achieve equilibrium of the mind and body.

A piece of furniture that elicits such a quick response is for sure a well-designed object. It was exhibited at SaloneSatellite with other pieces in the Studio PLZ DNT TCH collection.

“A piece of furniture that elicits such a quick response is for sure a well-designed object.” Possibly the stupidest, most tautologically masturbatory comment on design I’ve ever read. So something that causes a visceral reaction MUST be good design? I just can’t respect that position, you owe your readers better, more critical writing. Also, that looks horribly uncomfortable (ergo, badly designed); I sense that you just like it because it’s white and sleek.

So agree with Dmitri. This is absence of design, really!

actually saw this in Milan and it is surprisingly comfortable!
Bravo

Jaime thanks for the post! Design is so fantastic because it can be loved and hated all in one breath, with little to know knowledge about the object. Seek and you shall find.
Cheers!

Though this may be the absence of design, its simplicity makes you want to like it for its minimalism.
I can imagine myself lying in one of these and feeling very secure with its high walls and unobstructive surface…probably could easily fall asleep!
And if its uncomfortable, throw a blanket on top of it. Its just a lounge space. You make it whatever you want! :)
